Clary Sage Essential Oil

The use of Clary Sage during labour dates back centuries!

Clary sage oil is a natural uterotonic, meaning it improves the effectiveness of contractions during labour. Furthermore, it induces relaxation during labour by soothing the nervous system, providing a feeling of comfort and calmness throughout the birthing journey.

Due to its ability to cause uterine contractions, it can also assist in the birth of the placenta and reduce the potential for post-partum haemorrhage (excessive bleeding).

Clary sage is known for its potential to help induce labour. It's believed that inhaling clary sage essential oil or using it in massage during late pregnancy may trigger the release of oxytocin, the hormone responsible for initiating labour contractions. Clary sage should therefore only be used once you have reached your due date.
